Polavaram-affected families pushed into fresh troubles

KAKINADA: Several problems are cropping up in the process of rehabilitating the Polavaram Displaced Families in the merged mandals of Alluri Sitaramaraju district, giving a tough time to the authorities as well. As many as 620 non-tribal families of Polavaram Displaced Families have been allotted space in the rehabilitated colonies of Thaduvayi village in Jangareddygudem mandal.

A few months back, officials showed them a place for their stay. They were allotted their plot numbers and these families visited their constructed colonies.

Rampahcodavaram MLA Nagulapalli Dhanalakshmi distributed pattas to the PDFs of Sithampeta, Sriramagiri, Chokkanapalli, Kanuthunuru, Mulakapalli, Polluru Gonduru etc through the Jangareddygudem tahsildar.

Meanwhile, the PDFs came to know their plots have been changed and they would be shifted to another place.

Nearly 185 families of Sriramagiri and other villages went to Taduvai village and enquired about the fate of their flats in the colonies. The construction supervisors told them that their numbers have been changed and they would get new flat numbers.

The PDFs got confused and staged an agitation at the site. They demanded that the officials allot the same plots and flats that were allotted to them.

“I had been given a plot number, but now the officials are giving me another number. I think the new number may already have been allotted to another person. Tomorrow, we both have to quarrel. All the P-project-displaced families are facing this problem,’’ said N. Satyanarayana.

He said it is important that the officials should ensure that there are no legal problems for these families in future. VR Puram ZPTC, Ranga Reddy, said the officials should set things right and give the already allotted flats to these families in the same colony itself.

He said the construction is nearing completion. “If their shifting is delayed, they will face floods in the June and July months, as had happened last year.”

VR Puram tahsildar N. Sridhar told Deccan Chronicle that there was no change of colony and flats. The patta numbers have been revised, he said and added that after completion of the number revisions, the PDFs would be given fresh patta numbers. The PDFs need not worry about their residential colonies and there will be no legal problems in future, he said.

However, a PDF member said that a house was ready under his previous number. But, no house construction has been started yet with his new number. He said such confusion prevailed in the case of many PDFs.
