HYDERABAD: The Department of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology, Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences, Secunderabad organized Lupus Ramp walk and Lupus awareness programme on the occasion of ‘World Lupus Day’, on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sarath Chandra Mouli, who conceptualised the awareness programme said, “The prevalence of Lupus is 1 in 1,000 people, and 9 out of 10 affected patients are women. The most affected age group is between 15 and 45 years (reproductive age), but it can affect children also. It can take almost more than three years to see a Rheumatologist due to a lack of awareness both in public and among doctors”.
Dr, Prof Manimala Rao, director of medical education, KIMS and Dr. Rajkiran, president of the Indian Rheumatology Association of Hyderabad chapter and others attended the awareness programme.
