Electric bus service between Nellore and Tirupati commences operation
TIRUPATI: APSRTC is promoting sustainable transportation with the launch of electric AC bus services between Nellore and Tirupati. Its chairman Mallikarjuna Reddy inaugurated the services on Friday, marking a new era of eco-friendly commuting options for residents in Tirupati and Nellore districts.
Some 12 electric buses will operate along this route, six of them departing from each city at the scheduled times. The introduction of these electric vehicles adds to the fleet of 50 Olectra Greentech buses that are already running between Tirupati and Tirumala.
A few days ago, APSRTC started electric AC bus services between Tirupati and Kadapa.
The e-buses operating on the Nellore-Tirupati route can accommodate up to 35 passengers, including the driver. These buses can travel up to 200 km on a single charge.
During the inauguration ceremony, Mallikarjuna Reddy said electric buses would be introduced to more cities as a means to reduce carbon emissions. RTC’s e-buses are already operating between Tirupati-Tirumala and Tirupati-Kadapa, he said.
APSRTC zonal chairman Battula Supraja, officials from the public transport department and representatives from Olectra Greentech were present.
