Congress demands outlets for vegetables at reduced prices

WARANGAL: Although prices of commodities and vegetables are rising, and tomatoes and green chillies costing more than Rs 100 per kg, neither the ministers nor ruling party MLAs have come to the rescue of the people, said DCC president Naini Rajendar Reddy.

He was speaking after Congress activsts, led by party women wing district president Banka Sarala, held a protest holding tomatoes and green chillies at Tirumala junction in Gokulnagar, Hanamkonda, on Saturday.

Rajendar Reddy alleged that the people were unable to purchase most of the vegetables available in the market.

He said it has become a habit of the state and Union governments to do nothing for the people except for making hollow promises.

“The prices of just about everything are beyond the reach of the common man, including cooking oil, petrol, diesel, domestic gas cylinders, pulses and vegetables because of inept administration,” he said. “In contrast, in Congress-ruled states like Rajasthan, the government has brought down prices of essential commodities besides helping the farm sector.”

The state government must give subsidies to farmers and immediately open exclusive outlets for tomatoes and other essentials at reduced prices,
Rajendar Reddy demanded.

If the government fails to do so, the Congress party will start distributing them in slum areas free of cost, he added.
