Governor raps govt for poor upkeep of Hussainsagar

Hyderabad: Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan on Sunday once again hit out at the state government over its alleged failure in beautifying the Hussainsagar Lake, in a media interaction at the closing ceremony of Sailing Week.

She said that Hussainsagar is considered “a significant landmark” and “a popular tourist attraction” in Telangana.

“The lake is a gift to Telangana and it is the government's duty to maintain its beauty. It is a precious natural resource that has nurtured numerous sailors, who have achieved success at national and international levels, winning awards,” the Governor said.

“The responsibility to maintain the lake not only lies with the Army or the government, but also the public. Without the involvement of the public, the goal of a clean lake cannot be achieved,” Dr Soundararajan said.

Highlighting its importance to train sailors, she urged the government to take action. “A pollution-free lake is seen as a basic necessity for the trainees,” she said.

The Governor also called upon the public to limit and counter environmental degradation and pollution Hussainsagar was facing. She said she intends to draw attention to the need for immediate action to restore the lake’s cleanliness and preserve its natural ecosystem.
