Maternity hospital accused of ignoring newborn's treatment

HYDERABAD: After a case was registered against Fernandez Hospital at Boggulkunta for alleged negligence in providing treatment to a newborn, the hospital denied any lapses.

The hospital in a statement issued on Sunday said that the infant was born seven weeks premature, after 33 weeks.

“Our priority was to provide the best possible care for the infant, which included administering Nasal Continuous Positive Airway Pressure treatment to support and enhance lung function. Shortly after the placement of the nCPAP interface, our medical team noticed the development of a nasal ulcer,” the statement said.

“The hospital initiated efforts and as a result, the baby progressed well and has been ready for discharge from the hospital for a few days now. However, despite the best efforts the tissue loss could not be entirely prevented,” Fernandez Hospital said.

Narayanguda police, investigating the case, said that they were in the process of gathering evidence.
