Six Die in Road Accident Near Srikalahasti
TIRUPATI: Six people died and a boy was injured in a road accident on the
Puthalapattu-Naidupeta highway near Srikalahasti in Tirupati district on Sunday.
Police said an SUV collided head-on with a truck. “The SUV driver fell asleep at the wheel, causing the accident.”
The car had seven persons from two families from Vijayawada on a pilgrimage to temples in Tirupati district, including Tirumala and Srikalahasti and were on the road since Friday night.
The deceased were P. Narasimha Murthy, 48, P. Venkata Ramanamma, 44, P.
Akshaya, 16, J. Srilatha, 41, T. Rajya Lakshmi, 40, and T. Ramesh Babu, 52.
“The families that started from Vijayawada reached Tirumala and went to the
temple early in the morning on Sunday. They were on their way to Srikalahasti temple when the SUV collided with the truck that was on its way to Renigunta around 1.45 pm. The 16-year-old boy, T. Bharath, 16, suffered a fracture to his leg and was progressing at the local government hospital,” SI Thimmaiah said.
The bonnet of the SUV was completely damaged and got stuck to the truck. The
Srikalahasti I town police registered a case and moved the bodies to the government hospital in Tirupati for postmortem. Telugu Desam chief N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed his sorrow over the accident.
