Hyderabad Archdiocese to protest over Manipur violence

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Archdiocese, in collaboration with the Telugu Catholic Bishops Council (TCBC), and the Telangana Council of Churches (TCC), will organise a peaceful protest on August 12 to condemn the alleged atrocities in Manipur. The Bishops Council urged the Christian community to unite in prayer and ensure the success of the event.

Protesters were requested to assemble at Dharna Chowk, Indira Park, Lower Tank Bund, starting from 10 am.

Rev. Dr. T. Bhaskar, general secretary of TCC, condemned the allged inhumane and brutal killings, the molestation of women and the communal disharmony instigated by vested interests in Manipur and other states. This protest aims to vividly showcase our unswerving solidarity with the pressing concerns in Manipur.

Fr Raju Alex, deputy secretary of TCBC, on behalf of the organizers, appealed to all parishes, convents, religious houses, Catholic institutions, and believers to actively participate in the protest. He said the presence of the community in large numbers will manifest the community’s unity that is devoted to peace.

He further stated, "Our objective is to present a memorandum to the Governor of Telangana state through this peaceful protest and beseech her to forward it to the President of India."
