Heavy Rainfall Likely in AP Till September 14, Says IMD
VISHAKHAPATNAM: A fresh cyclonic circulation is likely to form over northwest and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal around Sept 12, IMD Amaravati said on Sunday.
Though this may not convert into a low pressure area, heavy rains are likely all over the state till Sept 14, Thursday.
Another trough runs from the cyclonic circulation over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining northeast Rajasthan to south Chhattisgarh across east Madhya Pradesh and extends up to 4.5 km above the mean sea level.
Lower tropospheric southwesterly and westerly winds prevailed over AP and Yanam. Under its influence, heavy rain is likely at isolated places in north coastal and south coastal AP and Yanam. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely at isolated places over the same areas from Monday. The rain would continue till September 14.
On Sunday, heavy rainfall lashed many districts since the afternoon. The sky was overcast for the entire day. The rain brought down the temperature but ended the dry spell that the state experienced since August.
There was a deficit of 54 per cent in rainfall in August. The present rainfall made up the deficit in 20 districts. IMD scientist S Karunasagar said Anantapur has a deficit of 26 per cent, Palnadu 22 per cent, Annamayya 32 per cent, Nellore 24 per cent, Prakasam16 per cent and West Godavari 25 per cent.
