Impact study to evaluate energy efficiency, 24x7 power supply

VIJAYAWADA: Energy minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy has directed power-related organisations to commission third parties to accurately evaluate saving of power after AP DISCOMs, SECM, SEEDCO and NREDCAP have taken up several energy efficiency programmes.

Participating in a teleconference with energy department officials, he underlined that impact of energy efficiency and renewable power generation will play a crucial role in 24x7 power supply both quality and quantity-wise.
The minister wanted energy department to explore global technologies and innovations in energy efficiency. This can help the state reach its energy-efficiency goals, including supply of 24x7 quality power.

Quoting an example of innovation and technologies, Ramachandra Reddy quoted a report of researchers belonging to NASA and Purdue University in US planning future space applications, which could charge an electric car on Earth in just five minutes, potentially paving the way for increased adoption of electric cars.

Special chief secretary (Energy) K. Vijayanand underlined that Bureau of Energy Efficiency has assigned AP a savings target of 6.68 million tonnes of oil equivalent energy by 2030. APSECM (AP State Energy Conservation Mission), in coordination with all departments, is endeavouring to reach this desired goal.

Vijayanand pointed out that APSEEDCO (AP State Energy Efficiency Development Corporation) has already put in place energy-efficiency measures at Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, model schools and court buildings.
