Kakinada district achieves 100 percent e-crop registration

KAKINADA: Kakinada district has completed e-crop registration of cent percent area sown in the district this year.

Incidentally, state government had introduced e-crop registration two years ago. Farmers had been unable to promptly register their crops last year due to lack of awareness about the system. Even though Rythu Bharosa Kendra personnel approached the farmers, they did not provide their crop details last year. This resulted in farmers facing considerable problems in selling their crops, particularly paddy, getting crop insurance and other facilities.

Insurance had turned out to be a major issue last year, as farmers had lost their crops during the Kharif season due to heavy rains and cyclones. As majority of the farmers had not registered their cultivated sowings on e-crop portal, they could not get input subsidy and crop insurance.

Following the bitter experience, all farmers have come forward this year to e-register their crops on the portal. In addition, personnel of RBKs have been approaching the farmers frequently, encouraging them to register their crops on the portal.

“There are 3.37 lakh farmers in Kakinada district and we have achieved cent percent e-crop registration. This year, crop insurance and crop details have also been entered on the portal. We have further completed 40 percent of EKYC. Remaining 60 percent will be completed by Monday evening,” said district agricultural officer Vijaya Kumar.

He underlined that PM Fasal Bima Yojana is also available on the e-crop portal. Farmers need not pay a single paisa for insuring their crops. They can sell their crops without facing any hurdles this Kharif. Horticulture and other commercial crops are also being registered on the portal.

According to agriculture officials, RBK personnel have completed 99 percent of crop registrations. But only 50 percent of farmers have given their thumb impression on the e-crop portal. Due to network issues, registering of thumb impressions had slowed down. There is thus a delay in this process, officials stated.
