Legal row over B.B. Patil’s election back in High Court

HYDERABAD: The legal tussle over the election of Bheemrao Baswanthrao Patil (B.B. Patil) as Zaheerabad MP on a TRS ticket in 2019, has returned to Telangana High Court, following the Supreme Court’s directions issued last month.

K. Madan Mohan Rao, who lost to Patil on a Congress ticket, had approached the High with an election petition, which was heard and rejected by a single judge on June 15 this year. Aggrieved by the setback, Rao approached the apex court, which set aside the order of the High Court and directed both parties to appear before the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court for hearing.

While reverting the case, the apex court observed that in the peculiar circumstances it was appropriate, rather necessary, that the matter be restored for reconsideration.

Accordingly, counsels for both sides appeared before Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan here on Monday. Counsel for Rao informed that it took more than a year to get this case listed before the judge and in this process more than three and a half years had gone by.

After hearing both sides, the Chief Justice adjourned the hearing to October 20 and made it clear that none of the parties will seek further adjournments.
