Youth accused of girl\'s murder put in remand
KAKINADA: Gubbala Venkata Suryanarayana, arrested following the killing of a 21- year-old girl Devaki in the Kandregula-Kurada region on Saturday, was produced before the second additional junior civil judge’s court by Pedapudi police on Sunday.
The court of Prasanna Lakshmi remanded the accused for 14 days and sent him to Kakinada sub-jail.
As per the case, Suryanarayana killed Devaki out of frustration and anger over her rejection of his love.
The parents of deceased Devaki were consoled at their home in village K Gangavaram by BC welfare minister Ch Srinivasa Venu Gopalakrishna. He promised the parents that the police would ensure stringent punishment to the accused. The government would render all help to the family of the deceased girl, he said.
Telugu Mahila leaders condemned the incident and demanded that the government act firmly against the assailant. Its state president Anitha, former deputy chairman Reddy Subrahmanyam, former Kakinada MLA Kondababu, former Kakinada rural MLA Pilli Ananthalakshmi also went to K Gangavaram and consoled the parents.
On Sunday night, Telugu Desam leaders led by Kondababu, MLC Chikkala Ramachandra Rao and former Kakinada Rural MLA Pilli Anantha Lakshmi took out a candle-light rally in Kakinada city.
Anantha Lakshmi said parents were afraid of sending their children to schools and offices as there was no protection and safety to girls and women in the society. Telugu Mahila members Tummala Sunitha, city president Chikkala Satyavathi, Mallipudi Nagadeepika, Meesala Sunitha and others were present.
Telugu Mahila Kakinada district president Sunkara Pavani said no women attacked by psychos could get justice during the YSRC rule.
The BC welfare minister said chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy announced a financial assistance of `10 lakh to parents of the deceased girl, Devika.
He felt that if the girl had used Disha App, the incident would not have happened. “Some mentally ill people in the society are committing such despicable attacks and girls should remain alert, he said.
