VMRDA Underlines Triumphs of 2023, Unveils Ambitious Plans

Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) recorded notable achievements during 2023 while unveiling ambitious plans for the future. The authority completed 90 layouts, including MIG and YSR Jagananna colonies. This is a historic accomplishment, surpassing all previous records during VMRDA's six-decade history.

In a conversation with Deccan Chronicle, authority’s chief urban planner Sanjay Ratna Kumar presented a comprehensive overview, notably the development of 83 one-cent layouts involving 1,41,654 plots. This underscores a commitment to strengthen urban infrastructure with a ₹175 crore investment.

Ratna Kumar outlined a strategy of RC plot layout development. During Phase-I, VMRDA focused on Quarry Rubbish roads and CC drains, 60 per cent of which have been completed. Phase-II involves BT roads, plantations, parks and electrification. These are currently in progress with a budget of ₹305 crore. Phase-III aims at providing water supply at an investment of ₹155 crore.

The chief urban planner underlined that road development has been a focal point, with several projects in various stages. They involve crucial networks for regional connectivity and mobility, including roads from National Highway (NH) 16 to Kapuluppada village, Law College at NH16 Junction and Pebble Beach Housing.

The authority has seen a surge in assets with inauguration of the Ramnagar Commercial Complex and ongoing progress on MLCP Project, promising modern amenities and convenience through multilevel parking and commercial spaces.

Numerous parks and beautification projects have been completed, including renovations at Kailasagiri Park, Thotalakonda, VMRDA Park and Tenneti Park. Tenneti Park's substantial makeover includes new design elements, outdoor gym equipment, and expanded car parking.

Regarding future plans, Ratna Kumar stated that VMRDA is gearing up its ambitious projects, such as completion of the Sea Harrier Museum, setting up of a Beach Deck, a Floating Bridge at Tenneti Park beach, introducing adventure sports at Kailasagiri, and inviting proposals for urban entertainment projects in various areas.

A foundation stone for the Science Museum has been laid on January 2, 2024, with a focus on augmented reality, silica statues, and space exhibits.

Other projects proposed include a railway over bridge (ROB) at NAD Flyover and innovative additions like Dashing Cars, a 12-D Theatre, and a Flash Tower on Kailasagiri.
