Doctors call off strike, assured by administration for facilities

HYDERABAD: Director of Medical Education (DME) Dr K. Ramesh Reddy gave fresh assurances to the Telangana Junior Doctors Association (Juda) on facilities to be provided to resident doctors under the District Residency Programme (DRP), at a meeting here on Monday.

Dr Ramesh Reddy said that revised posting orders would be released in a day or two to allot postgraduate doctors to area hospitals near parent hospitals for the first batch of the DRP. The decision was made as the government could not arrange the facilities of food and accommodation in the stipulated time

Further the demands on the hike in the stipend would also be met and a government order concerning 15 per cent hike would be implemented in 20 days, the DME said. Dr Ramesh Reddy said that the pending stipends for February and March would be released within a week.

Dr Kaushik Kumar Pinjarla, president of the Junior Doctors' Association said that since the assurance had been given by the authorities to meet their demands, as of now they had put the strike on hold. In case the administration failed to act upon its word, the junior doctors will call for a statewide protest from May 3 onwards.
