Kadapa municipal meet turns stormy as Rs 2.73cr spent for dustbin purchases

Anantapur: The huge expenditure in the name of purchase of dustbins led to heated arguments by corporators at the Kadapa Municipal Council meet on Monday. Corporators raised the issue and asked how an expenditure as huge as ₹2.73 crore was incurred on the purchase of dust bins for supply at the doorsteps of families in municipal corporation limits.

Corporators took the engineering staff to task for this huge spending. “Large scale irregularities took place in the purchase,” the corporators said and mainly blamed the higher-ups and the engineering staff for this.

An embarrassed Mayor Suresh Babu asked the media to leave the conference hall, where the meeting was on. CPI leader Venkata Shiva said the mayor and other officials should clarify as to how this happened under the CLAUP scheme, as also the additional tax in the form of Chetta Pannu.

Deputy chief minister Amzad Bhasha who later joined the meeting ignored the issue and advised the civic authorities and corporators to build Kadapa as a healthy and beautiful town. Roads are being developed, he said. Mayor Babu said the corporation was also concentrating on development of the gram panchayats that were merged into the corporation.
