Tirunelveli: Accused in cop's murder surrenders
Tirunelveli: One of the suspects, who was on the lookout by the Tirunelveli district police in connection with the murder of the special branch policeman, J Jagadeesh Durai, surrendered before the Tirunelveli magistrate court on Thursday.
Jagadeesh Durai was gruesomely murdered by a gang of illegal river sand miners at the Nambiyar river bed, when he attempted to nab them five days ago on Sunday midnight. The Tirunelveli district police have fixed ten suspects in connection with this murder and are on the lookout for them.
In this backdrop on Thursday evening, one of the accused, Amithabachchan (27) of Thamaraikulam village in Tirunelveli district surrendered before Tirunelveli magistrate court I and the magistrate
Thiru. Ramdoss remanded him to judicial custody for 15 days. According to the police Amithabachchan is the second accused in the case, who had beaten to death the special branch constable along with Murugan (30), the prime accused.
The police, however, was said to have ‘secured’ eight men-Murugan (30), Krishnan (56), Murugaperumal (21), Manikumar (27) Mani, Sermadurai,
Rajaravi and Thangavel in connection with the murder. Police said the other accused would be presented before the court in a couple of days.
Tirunelveli district SP, however, refused to confirm whether the other accused have been secured in the case.
