International Yoga Day 2020: Mysuru to unite a lakh people on their terraces
Mysuru: Yoga capital of the world Mysuru which has entered guinness book of world record with largest mass yoga session on Yoga day two years ago, is all set to host this year's 6th international yoga day on terraces of each household this yoga day on 21 June.
At least a lakh Mysureans are expected to take part in the event. Mysuru district administration in association with Yoga federation of Mysuru is planning to host this event “Ghar ghar ka yoga” with families this year for this year's yoga day.
While earlier there was a plan to invite Prime minister Narendra Modi and assemble 1 lakh people for this year's yoga day, since mass gathering is not allowed due to covid 19, they plan to host yoga day this way.
The organisers did a 45-minute professional video shoot with 10 ten yoga experts including international Yoga champion Khushi infront of Mysuru Palace on Thursday. The video includes 40 simple, easy, flexible exercises including, warm up, aasanas, pranayama, dhyana, which are all immunity boosters and as per protocol, which can be performed by any irrespective of being young or old, from six year old to nearly 90 year old.
They are planning to release the video by Saturday, and promote the event digitally by circulating the video of these exercises which will be performed on Yoga day, through a website, facebook, whatsapp, telegram app, e mails and other modes of social media. They are also reaching out to all the schools, colleges, organizations which have been part of mass yoga over past five years too.
On the international yoga, they plan to host fb live too. They plan to have sirens three sirens via district administration. One siren at 6.55am to alert people, another at 7am when the entire Mysuru will start performing Yoga watching the professional video circulated. And there will be final siren at 7.45am when the session ends.
“They plan to have an aerial video shoot of individual families performing yoga on terraces through drone. And they are coming up with an app where in the individual families can upload the photos of their yoga performance. And they even plan to provide digital certificates. They are expecting the participation of only those above 10 years and below 65 years to perform Yoga on terraces. And the rest can do it at home,” Mr Srihari, Vice President of Yoga federation of Mysuru told Deccan Chronicle.
The event is organised by Mysuru district administration in association with Yoga federation of Mysuru (which includes five organizations including SPYSS, GSS Yogic research foundation, Mysore yoga sports foundation, Mysore Yoga Okkoota, Bharath Swabhiman Trust).
Mysuru entered Guinness book of world records for the largest yoga lesson in single venue, with 55,506 participants in 2017. For past 5 years, every year atleast 50,000 Mysureans have joined for mass yoga on international yoga day. It was Krishnamacharya (who was Yoga guru of Maharaja Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar), and his student, Mr K BKS Iyengar both from Mysuru who took yoga to world.
