Government Higher Secondary School faces donation' charge
KOZHIKODE: A Corporation councillor alleged that the Medical College Campus of the Government Higher Secondary School management was taking a hefty amount in the name of donation for admission. Raising the issue in the Corporation council, Chevayur councillor Vidya Balakrishnan said that the School authorities also denied admission to students who refused to pay the donation demanded by them.
She added that she also got complaints from parents who said the authorities were forcefully taking money from parents but marking it as ‘contribution’ in the receipt. “The PTA is taking money from parents sabotaging the state government’s norms. However they are also keen on giving seats to students who are coming with recommendations from Party leaders and the MLA,” she added.
Reacting to the allegation, School Headmistress Shailaja V.H said that the donation was taken from the students based on the decision taken in the PTA meeting. “We are not taking any forceful ‘donations’ and in fact admitting students who are financially weak, free of cost. Those who are giving us the donations are doing it of their own will,” she added.
Corporation Education Standing Committee chairman M Radhakrishnan Master said that so far no complaints had been received from any parent related to the allegation. “If any such thing is happening, we will take strict action,” he added.
