KHAMMAM: Despite the announcement of “Har Ghar Tiranga” or national flag atop every household as part of 75th Independence Day, distribution of flags is lagging within the Khammam Municipal Corporation (KMC) area.
State government had announced that Tiranga flags will be distributed to each household as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav on August 8 and August 9. However, officials have received only 40,000 flags instead of the required 1.10 lakh. Roughly, only 600 flags have been distributed in each division of Khammam town against the demand of 1,700 flags.
As far as political parties are concerned, Congress is organising its Azad Ka Gaurav programme, while TRS legislators will participate in government programmes. BJP has started distributing national flags in all 1,440 polling booth areas of Khammam district at the rate of 50 flags per booth.
Officials are struggling to arrange buses for taking school kids to watch film “Gandhi” in theatres to kindle the freedom spirit among them. They have instead appealed to school managements that they arrange buses on their own or take help from business persons in their area. Officials are spreading word saying that will be the schools or business persons’ contribution towards celebrating the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
An official, on condition of anonymity, said state government has not released any special funds for celebrating the 75th Independence Day. Thus, they are seeking help from school managements and business people.
All officials participated in the 2K Freedom Run in Khammam district. Police commissioner Vishnu Warrior flagged off the run from Sardar Patel Stadium in Khammam town. Palair MLA K Upender Reddy took part in the 2K run in Kusumanchi while Sathupalli MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah did so in Sathupalli.
