Ganesh Utsav panel decries bar on PoP idol immersions
HYDERABAD: Dismissing the restrictions on immersion of Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols in lakes, the city’s head committee for Ganesh festival Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Committee has called for continuing immersion in lakes citing that it was a matter of faith.
Committee general secretary Bhagwant Rao Pawar pointed out that the High Court had allowed PoP Ganesh models. He said, “Making arrangements for the immersion is the government’s responsibility and we are not going to think along those lines.”
Rao further claimed that there was no proof that the idol immersion was leading to pollution of the water bodies since there was no laboratory evidence available with the government.
