Telangana government gives less for cosmetics
Hyderabad: Telangana government is not in touch with the reality of rising prices of products required for maintaining personal hygiene. This is reflected in the measly amount it pays as ‘cosmetic charges’ to students residing in social welfare hostels.
The cosmetic charges that Telangana government pays to students from classes 3-7 stands at Rs 50 per month for boys, Rs 55 per month for girls. It is Rs 75 for girls studying in classes 8-10. The money is expected to cover for products such as toilet and detergent soaps, talcum powder and hair oil — for an entire month. It becomes particularly tough for girls who have to buy even sanitary pads out of this money.
B Sambasiva, state secretary of Students Federation of India said, “Since June this year, the students have not received even this meager allowance.”
A senior official of Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society said, “A proposal was sent to the state government to increase cosmetic charges for school students one and half years ago, but the government has not replied yet.”
