VH question sale of temple lands online in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: Former PCC president V. Hanumantha Rao said it was unacceptable that the BRS government had allegedly auctioned a five-acre parcel of land belonging to a Shiva temple in Khanapur village of Gandipet mandal.
He visited the site on Sunday following a report in a Telugu newspaper. “How can the government sell land belonging to a temple to the corporates? The government says there is no land to build double bedrooms but hands over land to the rich,” said Hanumantha Rao, a former Rajya Sabha member.
He alleged that land that the previous Congress governments had given to the poor was being taken back by the BRS government and auctioned. “This does not augur well for them. Taking over the land of temples is sinful. Assigned land given to the poor is being taken back,” he said.
Corporates were selling villas built on these land parcels, taken back from the poor, for crores, he said. The government was giving land to caste organisations. What about the common people of those castes, Hanumantha Rao asked
