BJP To Lock-Up Escom Offices Over 7-hr Power To Farmers

Benguluru: Previous Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday asked the State Government to ensure 7-hours of power supply in three-phases to farmers or else the BJP leaders would stage a protest by locking-up offices of Electricity Supply Companies.

Addressing a farmers protest in Chikkaballapura near Bengaluru, Bommai accused the Congress led State Government of supplying two-hours of power to farmers while the power tariff has been hiked twice in the last three months.

Continuing his attack on the State Government led by the Congress party, he said the previous BJP government had released Rs 10,000 crore to the Energy department but the incumbent State Government had not released any grant as it did not have adequate funds to release the grants and also to purchase coal to produce power.

Bommai stated that in Chikkaballapur district alone there are about 1.5 lakh irrigation pumpsets and owing to inadequate power supply, the standing crops have been withering and asked the State Government “How many people can you book cases and send to jail?”
