Iron ore supply to VSP resumes after landslide
Visakhapatnam: In a significant development, supply of iron ore to RINL-Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) resumed on Tuesday following restoration of the KK rail line.
Ore supply to VSP got affected on September 24 following a landslide between Jaypore and Koraput, which disrupted rail services, including transport of iron ore from the NMDC Bailadila sector, the primary source for RINL.
Compounding the issue, heavy monsoon rains limited the ore inflow, depleting stockpiles to critical levels.
RINL faced the challenge by securing iron ore from alternative sources, including NMDC-Karnataka, SAIL-Bolani / Barsuan, Orissa Minerals Development Company and Orissa Mining Corporation. These efforts ensured uninterrupted operation of RINL's two blast furnaces.
Simultaneously, railway authorities started restoration operations, which led to coal supplies along the line resuming on Tuesday.
RINL has thanked various stakeholders for restoration of its iron ore supplies.
