After Covid lockdown, Salar Jung museum reopens in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: After remaining closed to visitors for nearly eight months, Hyderabad’s Salar Jung Museum reopened on Tuesday with Covid-19 restrictions. Though the day saw far fewer visitors than used to visit the museum in pre-Covid-19 times, authorities said they were satisfied with the numbers.
Museum director Dr A. Nagender Reddy said, “We have taken all possible precautionary measures to contain the Coronavirus. Visitors will not be allowed inside without masks and they have to maintain distance while viewing the exhibits and artefacts. Visitors were asked to maintain distances while sitting on the benches. In the canteen, food items and tea are being served in disposables.”
He said that Tuesday saw more than 400 visitors arrive for a day at the museum. “Though this is much less than the normal turnout, we hope that after Diwali the number of visitors will increase. On normal days, more than 2,000 visitors used to arrive while on holidays the number used to jump to 3,000 and on weekends it used to be up to 5,000,” Dr Nagender Reddy said.
He said that he expected the footfall to increase when more people begin travelling and full train services resume that will bring more visitors to the city and its attractions.
Dr Nagender Reddy also said that visitors who arrive without masks can purchase one at the ticket counters. He appealed to the visitors to maintain distance and use masks.
