JNTUK Complains Against Encroachment of its Land
Kakinada: Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada (JNTUK) has lodged a complaint with Sarpavaram police against members of Jamal Trust for trespassing on the university land.
In her complaint, university registrar L. Sumalatha said state government vested land to JNTUK by way of acquisition under Award No .6/1971 and 7/1971 of RDO and LAO, Kakinada. A masjid / eidgah is located on the western side of the JNTUK campus. The masjid has raised a dispute and the matter is in the courts.
According to the registrar, in the third week of March 2022, workers of Jamaal Charitable Trust cleared bushes at the western side of the campus and filled gravel into about two acres of land for carrying out some construction. When university staff objected, Jamaal Trust representatives threatened them.
The registrar requested police officials to halt the construction activities, clear the university site of all debris, and restore the integrity of the university land.
Sarpavaram police have registered a case
BJP leaders Yarlagadda Ramkumar and Duvvuri Subrahmanyam told reporters on Saturday that for the past 30 years, a dispute over the land has been going on between JNTUK and a particular religious organisation. JNTUK has tried to stop the religious body from encroaching the university land.
BJP carried out a massive movement to stop the encroachment. Later, the local court delivered judgment in favour of JNTUK. The organisation approached the High Court. While the matter is pending, the religious organisation tried to encroach onto the university site and BJP stopped it. At the time, the religious organisation submitted an undertaking to the High Court that they would not take up any further construction on the site till a verdict is delivered.
Ramkumar and Subrahmanyam accused members of the religious organisation of continuing their encroachment activity. They requested police to set up a police picket at the JNTUK, so that no activities are taken up over the disputed site.
BJP district secretary M. Suresh, P. Ravindra and P. China Subba Rao were among those present.
