Kerala: Police forces block PDP rally on border

A large posse of police from both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu were deployed in the area.

KALPETTA: Police forces from two states blocked the protest march organised by People’s Democratic Front (PDP) to the Karnataka legislature at the Kerala-Karnataka border at Muthanga on Saturday. The march, led by PDP leader Poonthura Siraj, demanded the release of PDP leader Abdul Nassar Madani from prison. The march started in the morning with activists chanting “we are ready to give our lives, give back Madani”. Kalpetta MLA CK Saseendran inaugurated the march.

A large posse of police from both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu were deployed in the area. Police had blocked the vehicular movement through NH 212 from Kozhikode to Bangalore from 8 am in the morning. Hundreds of PDP workers from various districts participated in the march. Chamaraj Nagar district collector had imposed prohibition orders in the Gundelpett police station limits. A Gundelpett also police blocked the traffic and diverted the vehicles through Gudallur in Tamil Nadu and Bavali in Wayanad. Police diverted the traffic through.
