Andhra Pradesh: Parents seek task force to check ragging, drug use
Anantapur: Parents Association of Andhra Pradesh has sought that state government form a task force along with parents at every educational institution in the state to put an end to ugly incidents like ragging, drug use and other incidents.
Association president Sikaram Narahari and general secretary G. Eswaraiah have written a letter to Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, pointing out that many incidents of ragging and usage of drugs have been reported in top educational institutions, including government medical colleges. But even after police have intervened and the institutes have taken action, these illicit activities are continuing, particularly in college and hostels.
They said the chief minister must thus examine starting of task forces at every institution comprising teachers and parents of students studying in those colleges. They felt such committees at the educational institutions will be able to curb the negative trend to a large extent.
Eswaraiah pointed out that institutions in Kurnool and Ongole have fared badly in the past two months. Ragging is continuing at Siddartha Medical College in Vijayawada, where seniors are forcing juniors to write their records throughout the night. Because of this, juniors are unable to attend the classes the next day.
Narahari said formation of task force committees with parents will build confidence among students who are dedicated to their studies in their respective institutions.
