Warangal top cop cracks whip against corrupt policemen
WARANGAL: Warangal police commissioner A.V. Ranganath has won appreciation from people within a month of taking charge by cracking the whip against police officials who are operating beyond the limits of law. Within the month, he has suspended eight police personnel within the Warangal commissionerate limits for their acts of omission and commission.
Ranganath suspended a task force inspector, two head constables and a constable for their acquiescence to illegal diversion of rice meant for distribution through ration shops. A sub-inspector of Subedari police station in Hanamkonda faced the same punishment for not registering a complaint lodged by a woman but asking her to comprise.
The commissioner suspended a circle inspector of Geesukonda mandal and a woman assistant sub-inspector of Damera mandal for behaving in a manner that brought disrepute to police department. A police constable got suspended when an arrested burglar managed to escape from the police station.
It is learnt Ranganath has increased vigil on several police officials known to collect money from wine shops, bars and restaurants, and persons involved in illegal businesses. In addition, he has warned police who are suspected to be in cahoots with land encroachers within the commissionerate limits.
Some of the corrupt police personnel are worried about the top cop’s axe falling on them. These cops have appealed to their influential masters to transfer the commissioner to another district before their illegal operations get exposed.
