7th attempt! Karnataka doctor finally cracks civil services exam
Bengaluru: This is the story of Dr. Lingaraj Naik S., a doctor by profession who is working in an ESI hospital in Shivamogga. An alumnus of the Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMRCI) of the city, Dr. Naik is now preparing for his 8th MBBS exam attempt, even though he was able to crack the examination in his 7th attempt.
There was no bus service to his village, nor was there any electricity. Both his parents were agricultural laborers earning a meager income. Despite all these major hurdles, he still managed to become an MBBS doctor. But his success story does not end here.
Despite the fact that he was not able to crack the elite Civil Services Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in his first six attempts, starting from the year 2009, he did not give up. In his seventh attempt he made his village proud by securing 922nd rank in the examination, the results of which were announced on Tuesday. But now he wants to appear for the examination again.
For the eighth time. His sole intention: to become an IAS officer to serve society.
In his own words: "I am from a small village called Hiremagadi in Soraba taluk of Shivamogga district. My parents were small-time farmers but used to work as agricultural laborers most of the year. My village had no bus service. Like all my friends, I too studied in a government Kannada medium school till Std X. But once I moved to Shivamogga city for my PU classes my life took a different turn. I developed within me the ambition of becoming a doctor and got an MBBS seat at BMRCI. I completed my MBBS in the year 2009 and then appeared for the Civil Services examination with the sole intent of becoming an IAS officer to help people,” he said.
