Call to focus on tech-based defence applications

IIITDM celebrates national technology day

KURNOOL: Associate director of LRDE, a DRDO lab in Bangalore, Duvvuri Sheshagiri on Thursday showcased several missile tracking and radar technologies they had developed and explained how they were used in defence applications.

He was participating in a seminar on ‘Significance of technology in the development of India’, organised by the city-based Information Technology Design and Manufacturing (IIITDM) commemorating the national technology day here on Thursday.

Scientist Dr M. Gopala Krishna Murthy from research centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad, spoke about developing an indigenous navigation system for defence applications and presented various navigation systems designed by RCI for space and- navigation applications. He said that 'Navigation on Chip' (NoC) is the future technology.

K. Gurumurthy, registrar of IIITDM Kurnool, emphasized the role of academic institutions in technology development and, thereby, nation's growth.

Vijnana Bharathi (VIBHA) representative Prof. N.V.S. Gupta presented the services and activities of the organization in rural areas that are intended to draw students to the exciting world of science and technology.

In-charge director Dr Satya Babu said that there was a need to focus on strengthening the sciences for a stronger technological development.

Convener Dr Ravinder Katta, head, department of sciences, also spoke on the occasion.
