Severe heat wave in Andhra Pradesh from Sunday
VISHAKHAPATNAM: Andhra Pradesh would witness severe heat wave conditions from Sunday as the northwesterly winds would be flowing into the coastal regions.
“Temperature will be up by at least six degrees Celsius,’’ said IMD scientist at Amaravati IMD, S Karunasagar. “A fresh spell of heat wave is likely to prevail over parts of north coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and south coastal Andhra Pradesh,” he said.
“Maximum temperatures in many parts of the state are expected to be over 40 degrees Celsius. On Friday, the highest maximum temperature of 43 degrees C was recorded at Jangamaheswarapuram in Palnadu district in coastal Andhra Pradesh. Many parts of AP reeled under hot and dry weather conditions on Friday. A similar weather condition is likely to prevail during the next four days till a new system forms over the Bay of Bengal,” the IMD said in its report on Friday.
Meanwhile, the shipping activity was regulated over the southeast Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea till Friday, the East Central Bay of Bengal till Sunday and west central Bay of Bengal till Saturday.
IMD said the very severe cyclonic storm Mocha over central and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal moved north-northeast and lay centered over the same region about 530km west-northwest of Port Blair (950km south-southwest of Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh) and 870km south-southwest of Sittwe (Myanmar).
It is very likely to move north northeast and intensify further over East Central Bay of Bengal. It is likely to cross southeast Bangladesh and north Myanmar coasts between Cox’s Bazar (Bangladesh) and Kyaukpyu (Myanmar), close to Sittwe (Myanmar) around noon of Sunday.
