Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Samiti decides to make a clay Ganesh idol using organic colours for the Ganesha festival

Hyderabad: Hyderabad police commissioner C.V. Anand and GHMC chief Lokesh Kumar felicitated members of the Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Samiti for their decision to make a clay Ganesh idol using organic colours for the Ganesha festival scheduled for the first week of August.

Appreciating their move, Anand said that clay idols were pro-environment and appealed to the public to emulate the example of the Khairatabad samiti and to celebrate the festival in an eco-friendly and grand manner.

The GHMC and the city police are contemplating holding a training programme on making clay idols for the Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrations.

During the meeting, which took place at the police commissioner’s office, Anand and Lokesh Kumar sought the views of the the utsav samiti members on how they plan to organise the celebrations.

The police commissioner assured all possible help to the samiti at all levels and urged them to set up a proper barricading system for queues and to illuminate the entire area for the convenience of visitors.

“Our officers will be stationed to tackle any situation. The traffic police wing will monitor all the routes abutting the idol site and towing vehicles will be pressed into service to clear any vehicles blocking the carriageway. Even the rail track near the pandal will be monitored.” Anand said.

This time GHMC is making elaborate arrangements including road repairs, pothole filling, addressing water stagnation, LED lighting and other issues. “We will distribute 5 lakh clay idols,” Lokesh said.
