Offensive posts against national leaders on social media to be regulated

Kalaburagi: Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Information Technology and Biotechnology Priyank Kharge has affirmed government's commitment to regulate offensive posts against national leaders and derogatory remarks on social media.

Kharge, who is also the Kalaburagi district in-charge minister, spoke to reporters during the launch of the "Shakti" scheme at Kalaburagi on Sunday.

He expressed concern over the misuse of social media platforms, which he observed as a disturbance to societal well-being. He reassured the public that the government would not remain idle when such activities instigate unrest.

"Such posts circulating on social media platforms would be regulated in compliance with the Supreme Court's verdict. This (subject) comes under the jurisdiction of my department," Kharge said.

On the question about discrepancies in the latest electricity bill, Kharge said that the decision to revise the tariff was taken during the tenure of the previous government.

"But it was not implemented due to the assembly elections. It has now come into effect. If there are higher bills due to technical reasons, the authorities will address them accordingly," Kharge assured.
