HYDERABAD: Five people from Telangana, as well as a group of 30, have been traced after going incommunicado for more than three days when Himachal Pradesh was battered by rain and floods. According to the Telangana Junior Doctors' Association (TJUDA), three of them are doctors who completed their postgraduation in general surgery from Osmania Medical College.
When all of their phones were found to be switched off, family members reached out for help. TJUDA wrote to health minister T. Harish Rao for assistance in reaching the group.
Dr Banoth Kamal Lal, Dr Rohit Suri, Dr Srinivas and two friends, Nishanth and Mohan Gopi, were stranded in Shallin in Manali and had trouble finding their way back home.
"Thanks to Minister Harish Rao's intervention, the officials were able to coordinate with the authorities and are working to provide assistance for their safe return," Dr Kaushik Kumar Pinjarala, president of TJUDA, told Deccan Chronicle.
Dr R K Akhil Kumar, general secretary of the association, said that one of the five members used the phone of a local there to confirm their place and location.
A group of 30 from the city made several attempts to reach officials for help after they were stranded at Darcha La due to landslides on either side, on the roads towards Manali and towards Bara-lacha La pass. "We have no where to go. It’s been 4 days since we have stranded here (sic)," Pranay wrote on Twitter. He later confirmed to have touched base with volunteers and their own family members.
