Blood donation will not affect one\'s health: Kaloji University VC

Reddy pointed out that the body has a mechanism to replenish the blood that is injected out in small quantities

Warangal: "People have wrong notions about blood donation. They should shed them and come forward to donate blood," pleaded Vice-Chancellor of Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS), Dr Karunakar Reddy, here on Thursday.

He was participating in a blood donation camp organised as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav by the university in association with NSS and the Red Cross Society in Hanamkonda.

Reddy pointed out that the body has a mechanism to replenish the blood that is injected out in small quantities. There is no risk to health from blood donation. Any healthy person can donate blood twice or thrice a year. Within a few days, as much new blood will be formed within the body, he said.

“Donating blood helps save lives of those who are in dire need of blood for operations etc. There are several components in blood. With new and advanced technology, the components can be separated and donated to the needy,” the VC said.

Apart from the VC, deputy VC Dr Ramesh and university registrar Dr. Praveen along with students participated in the blood donation camp. Red Cross chairman Dr. Vijaychander Reddy, members Srinivas Rao, P Srinivas, Papi Reddy and NSS coordinator Dr. Prabhakar Reddy were present.
