HD Deve Gowda takes stock of water availability
HASSAN: In the wake of water being released to Tamil Nadu from Krishna Raja Sagar reservoir (KRS), former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda took stock of the water availability at Hemavathy reservoir at Gorur in Hassan district on Sunday by flying in a helicopter to get a panoramic view of the backwaters, before asserting that he knew how to fight for the state’s cause.
Water is also being released from Hemavathy reservoir which flows to KRS and then to TN. As on Sunday, water level at the reservoir stood at 12.195 tmc feet while its total capacity is 37.103 tmc feet. Water in the reservoir at the same time last year was 20 tmcft. Besides, there was 703 cusecs inflow into the reservoir while the outflow was 8500 cusecs. Inflow into the reservoir was recorded at 3404 cusecs the previous year and outflow at 500 cusecs.
Landing at the helipad at the reservoir, Mr Gowda said: “Availability of about 45 tmcft of ground water in TN has not been taken note of by any of the judges before passing the order to release water from Karnataka.” By discharging water from Hemavathy reservoir, the state government was emptying the reservoir, he charged. At the same time, he tried to dissuade the agitating farmers from conducting a mock funeral ceremony of TN CM Jayalalithaa.
