Elections for recognised trade union in Singareni on October 28
ADILABAD: Elections for the recognised trade union in Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) will be held on October 28. Nominations will start on October 7 and symbols will be allotted to the trade unions on October 10. The schedule for the elections would be released on Sept 22.
On Monday, trade unions reached an understanding during a meeting with the deputy labour commissioner in Hyderabad on conducting the elections that were pending for the last two years. The labour department agreed to issue the notification for the elections on Sept 22 and the polling will be held on October 28.
Some unions said the Singareni authorities are paying wage board arrears to the workers on Sept 21.
The election for a recognised trade union in Singareni was postponed three times till now, due to various reasons. The last elections were held in October, 2017 and the tenure for the elected Boggugani Karmika Sangam (TBGKS) affiliated to BRS ended in 2021.
Singareni was spread over four erstwhile Adilabad, Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam districts. The election results will have an impact on the 24 assembly constituencies where polls are expected soon. The BRS was averse to the elections to recognise the trade unions in SCCL. It snapped ties with the left parties and hence it can go it alone in the Singareni elections.
The AITUC and INTUC used to win the SCCL polls as the recognized trade union before the emergence of TBGKS.
The BRS started taking more interest in these elections following the news that there would be simultaneous elections for assembly and parliament in January 2024.
