Shivraj Makes A Thanksgiving Visit to Mahakal After Rains in MP
Bhopal: Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday visited the Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh to thank the presiding deity of the ancient shrine for answering his prayers for rain in the state.
Mr Chouhan performed special puja in the sanctum sanctorum of the shrine, where one of the 12 jyotirlingas is worshipped, to express his gratitude to Mahakaleshwar, the presiding deity of the temple, for ‘answering’ his prayer for ending the dry spell in the state.
“I visited Mahakaleshwar temple last Monday when the state was reeling under dry spell. I had prayed for rain in the temple then. God answers the prayer if one does it from the core from one’s heart”, he told reporters while emerging out of the shrine.
A threat of drought had loomed over large parts of Madhya Pradesh due to dry spell in the month of August.
Standing crops have suffered in some parts of the state due to the lack of rain during the period.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier predicted rainfalls for a week from September seven.
The state has been witnessing good rainfall across the state for the last four days.
However, the state government feared that standing crops such as soybean and paddy in some parts of the state which have suffered damages due to the dry spell in August may not be salvaged.
Meanwhile, Union civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Monday performed puja at the bank of Spira river in Ujjain.
