SCCL Trade Union Elections Postponed to December 27

SCCL shall furnish the updated voters list to the deputy chief labour commissioner by November 30

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Wednesday postponed elections of Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) trade union to December 27. This follows the inability expressed by the SCCL management in view of the Assembly elections that have been announced.

The division bench, comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar, was hearing an appeal filed by SCCL, challenging the single judge orders to complete the union elections by the end of October.

The state government submitted that the state and district administration, including police and other government department staff, would be occupied with the Assembly elections. Moreover, the SCCL trade union elections would need the services of nearly 700 officers from various departments, they said.

After hearing the contentions, the High Court issued directions postponing the trade union elections. However, as nominations were already received, the process of election shall be taken forward from the stage of allotment of symbols, the bench said.

At the same time, SCCL shall furnish the updated voters list to the deputy chief labour commissioner by November 30. The special chief secretary (energy) was directed to furnish an undertaking by Thursday to the effect that the state government shall make all required arrangements.

The compliance report should be filed before the High Court on December 29, by completing the election process, it said.
