Students still stuck, await evacuation from Israel
Anantapur: Students from India stuck in war-hit Israel remained in a difficult situation there as exit has not been easy.
The Indian embassy and its connecting wings were unclear about the schedule for evacuation of Indians there in view of the frequent attacks from Hamas militants on Israel.
Manjunath, a scientist from Bengaluru and a native of Rolla mandal in Sri Sathya Sai district, working in Nano sector, told Deccan Chronicle that “Israel is at war with both Lebanon and Palestine.” The Israeli army destroyed huge buildings in Gaza. However, Hamas was still firing rockets to Israel and making civilian life there very difficult.
“Many countries in Europe, as also Brazil, South Korea etc have started evacuation of their citizens. The Indian government and the Indian Embassy of Israel have not taken any decision yet on evacuations and asking the Indians there to follow the Israel government’s rules. Nobody knows when this will end,” he lamented.
Manjunath said he wrote a message to the first secretary of the Indian embassy, Tel Aviv, and got a reply that “No real-time information has been given to us.”
“They are simply asking us to follow Home Front Command instructions and stay at home.”
He added: “The Indian government, when the media raised the issue of evacuation of the Indians from Israel, said, ‘All Indians are saying they are safe and they are not asking us to evacuate them.’ However, the situation is still uncertain. Militants are bombing the airport area and threatening to attack the airport,” he observed.
