Bengaluru: Tamil school becomes a garbage yard!
Bengaluru: BBMP Tamil-Kannada Higher Primary Nursery School on Thimmaiah Road, has become a mini garbage dumping-yard. The entrance of the school is used for flinging garbage, as a storage place for old scrap items, to dump sand to be used for construction and a lot of other things. Students are falling ill due to all this, says social worker Ramachandran.
Lamenting over the condition of the government school premises on Thimmaiah Road, Shivajinagar, Mr Ramachandran said, "Are the people who are exploiting the place doing it without any fear as the place belongs to a government school? Don't they have the common sense to see that their action of dumping garbage and other waste will affect the children studying in the school? Even the concerned government officials have neglected the premises and allowed it to remain in this poor and neglected condition."
“Heaps of garbage with stray cattle feeding on it, waste and debris heaped high, have created a very filthy atmosphere at the entrance of the school. What can possibly be the state of health of these children who have no option but to use the same gate to enter and exit from the school? How will the children be able to concentrate on their studies in the class, when the foul smell emanating from the garbage is hitting them?” he questioned.
Mr Ramachandran continued, “This can adversely affect the health not only of the students but also of those residing nearby.”
He has already sought the intervention of BBMP Mayor Padmavathi and has handed her a letter requesting her to immediately take action to solve this situation.
Mayor Padmavathi said, “I got to know about this just today. I will be visiting the school on Monday and will take action against those responsible and ensure that the area is cleared of all garbage."
