CS orders high security number plates for all vehicles in Andhra Pradesh
VIJAYAWADA: Chief Secretary K.S. Jawahar Reddy on Thursday directed road transport officials to ensure that all vehicles in the state bear high security number plates, as per directives of the Supreme Court.
He wanted transport authorities to ensure that dealers deliver vehicles to customers only after fixing high security number plates. As far as old vehicles are concerned, efforts must be made to ensure that they too fix high security number plates within a specific time period. He called for widespread publicity on the issue of number plates.
The CS directed officials to take up a special drive against officials mentioning their designations on number plates of their government vehicles. Such a mention is against norms. Only the name – Government Vehicle – can alone be mentioned.
Jawahar Reddy felt all transport and hired vehicles like buses, tractors, trucks and others must have a radium tape fixed on the backside to prevent road accidents. Further, CCTV cameras must be installed at all important junctions vulnerable to accidents.
Principal secretary M.T. Krishna Babu was among those present at the meeting.
