Women Recall Memorable' Kite Flying Days
Hyderabad: Sankranti is a festival in which most of the terraces are swarmed by young girls and women either holding the charka (bobbins) or flying kites with gay abandon. It is family time.
Many women recalled their kite flying days here on Saturday.
According to Sameena Begum, corporator of Talab Chanchalam, “we were in Gowlipura, Girls are fond of flying kites. We had a big house. All girls like me used to go to the terrace and fly kites. Our elders used to encourage us, while our brothers taught us kite flying skills. They were memorable days. In a continuation of the celebration, now my daughters make sure that they are on the terrace to fly kites during the festival.”
Soniya Gilada, “I got hooked on to the sport since coming to the city after marriage. My hubby taught me how to fly a kite. I thoroughly enjoy going to Begum Bazar to fly kites at night.” Moushumi Roy, from the aviation industry, recalls “the kite flying memories go a long way. We used to fly kites, cook food for the family and hold bobbins.”
