Honour Sanjeeva Reddy with Padma Shri, VHR urges Centre
HYDERABAD: Former Congress MP V. Hanumantha Rao, who attended the 93rd birthday celebrations of Dr G. Sanjeeva Reddy, president of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (Intuc), urged the government to award him Padma Shri, in recognition of his selfless service for close to six decades.
He was speaking at an event, organised by the Intuc at RTC Kalyana Mandapam, which was attended by scores of union leaders who came from several states. They lauded the support the Intuc had lent to employees working in different organisations.
Recalling the services of Dr Sanjeeva Reddy, Hanumantha Rao said that the leader being the longest serving president of any trade union in India and having a record of close to three decades as the leading entity of Intuc, should get due recognition from the government like the Padma Shri.
The meeting was also attended by former PCC chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah.
Later in the evening, Lok Sabha member N. Uttam Kumar Reddy called on him at his residence. Terming Dr Sanjeeva Reddy a legend in trade union activities, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that he had done great work for the welfare and employment security of organised and unorganised workers for over six decades.
