LDF government sanctions 3 bridge projects for Koyilandy
KOZHIKODE: The state government has accorded administrative and technical sanction to build three mega bridges in Koyilandy assembly constituency - after four years of uncertainty citing severe financial crunch. The bridges are coming up at Akalapuzha, Thorazhikadavu and Moorad at the cost of Rs 35 crore, Rs 25 crore and Rs 50 crore respectively in the first phase under the state's Rs 1475 crore plan for bridges.
“We proposed them in 2011. Unfortunately, the government did not consider them then citing several technical and financial issues,” said Koyilandy MLA K. Dasan. "Since the new administration announced the Rs 1475 project, we took it up and got the approval. We need a bridge across Akalapuzha linking Moodadi and Thurayur for an alternative road connecting Koyilandy and Koothuparamba. We will now press for the same."
The public works department (PWD) has designed the proposed bridges and completed the land acquisition. For Akalapuzha bridge, the administrative bodies have to acquire land for the approach road and hand it over to PWD. "At the same time, the existing bridge at Moorad will be renovated as it is in ruins," he said.
