Owaisi draws Gyanvapi parallel to Babri Masjid

HYDERABAD: Reacting to Varanasi district court’s order on Gyanvapi mosque, MIM chief, Asaduddin Owaisi drew parallels with the Babri Masjid case. He felt that the very purpose of 1991 Worship Act was under question, as the latest case has opened floodgates for more such ‘litigations’.

Speaking to media persons here on Monday, he pointed out that the order has undermined the Supreme Court observation that ‘past wrongs cannot be corrected’, at the time of Babri Masjid’s judgement. On the happiness expressed by Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak, Owaisi felt that it does not befit a person holding an important position in the government.

“Is Sunni Waqf Board not part of the government? How is this minister speaking after taking oath? He is openly siding with one community and spreading hatred,” he said. The Hyderabad Lok Sabha member felt that the order will create a ‘destabilising effect’, across the country. “I had hoped that the court would nip it in the bud,” he said.
