Technical Analysis Wing: 300 cell phones worth Rs.30 lakh recovered, 20 arrested
TIRUPATI: Technical Analysis Wing (TAW), an arm of Chittoor district police department which played a crucial role in busting hundreds of cell-phone theft cases, once again made breakthroughs in the recovery of over 300 stolen mobile phones worth Rs 30 lakh within two months.
The TAW team is not only responsible for the recovery of the stolen mobile phones from six different states, but also helped the police in the arrest of 20 accused involved in the cell- phone theft cases registered at various stations including Chittoor Taluk (7 accused), Chittoor I & II town stations (10) and Thavanampalli, Palamaner and Nagari.
Constituted in August 2020, the TAW consists of 20 constables with B.Tech or M.Tech background. They underwent training in the cybercrime investigation and mastered in using the latest technology and adhering to the principles of investigation.
According to Chittoor SP Y. Rishanth Reddy, TAW played a crucial role in cracking many sensational cases, including the highway robbery involving Xiaomi mobile phones worth Rs 8 crore, reported on Andhra Pradesh-Tamil Nadu border near Nagari in October 2020. Since its formation, the TAW helped in the recovery of more than 2,300 mobile phones worth Rs 2.05 crore.
TAW team members were well trained on various technical aspects such as CDR (Call Detail Record) analysis, tower dump analysis, location tracking, query generation, social media monitoring and crime detection skills, etc. TAW has been divided into six teams, with two teams working at the DPO and four teams working under the supervision of local DSP in the sub-divisions.
“TAW not only cracked cases involving cell phone thefts but also excelled in detecting the accused in other theft cases reported in Chittoor. With the support of TAW staff, investigative teams busted out the inter-state gang involved in vandalising of idols at ancient temples in the district”, the SP said.
More than 100 cases related to missing, cheating, women and girl missing cases were also traced and resolved with the support of TAW.
The appreciated the efforts of CDR analysis assistant sub-inspector E. Devarajulu and IT core team for supporting the teams of TAW. Chittoor DSP N. Sudhakar Reddy and others were present.
