GHMC razes two structures owned by poachgate accused

HYDERABAD: Officials from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Sunday demolished two structures in the premises of Deccan Kitchen, Filmnagar, in Jubilee Hills, that belong to Kore Nanda Kumar, one of the accused in the alleged attempt to poach TRS MLA.

The structures were demolished a day after the special investigation team (SIT) that is probing the ‘poachgate’ had conducted searches at the hotel. Civic authorities said that the demolition was taken up after following due process. They said that the final notice was served on November 2 in accordance with the new GHMC Act.

According to a GHMC official, the land was owned by W3 Hospitality Services Private Limited and leased to one Pramod and Nanda Kumar. The two allegedly began construction work on the land at Plot No. 2, Filmnagar, without obtaining permission from the corporation. Officials did not touch Deccan Kitchen, which is in Plot No 3, as it was found in compliance with GHMC norms.

Authorities said that Pramod and Nanda Kumar were setting up an ice-cream outlet and a garments store for which construction activity was in full swing, especially at night. Citing this violation, authorities served two notices prior to razing the structures.

According to the new GHMC Act, action will be taken against those misusing TS-bPASS (Telangana State Building Permission Approval and Self Certification System), or those in violation of bylaws, open set back rules, constructing on government property and building additional floors.

Nanda Kumar was arrested along with two others, Ramachandra Bharati, a priest from Haryana, and Simhayaji of Tirupati. The SIT team believed that the trio along with their acquaintances had frequently met at the hotel during their visits to the city, which prompted them to take up searches on Saturday.

On the number of notices served to persons indulging in unauthorised constructions, officials said that they have been acting on the instructions of their higher authorities and refused to comment further.
